Our hosts will demonstrate the differences between traditional farming techniques and the newer technologies used today. Revel in the romance of the local Marinera dance and local musicians. The marinera is the best-known couple dance on the coast of Peru. It is characterized by the use of handkerchiefs, steps of great elegance and rhythmic music similar to the Aragonese jota, the zamacueca and the Chilean cueca, but with its own Peruvian identity that flaunts the Hispano-indigenous-African miscegenation. For the same reason, over the years Andean and highland versions have emerged. This evening, meet Local Specialist, Peter Frost, a writer, photographer and independent scholar who has explored the Andes and Amazon for 47 years, locating and investigating the previously unknown Inca and pre-Inca site of Qoriwayrachina. Sacred Valley – Machu PicchuVisit the mystical Incan stronghold of Ollantaytambo, en route to Machu Picchu, a village in the Sacred Valley, set on the Urubamba River amid majestic mountains. It's known for the Ollantaytambo ruins, a massive Inca fortress with large stone terraces on a hillside. Then, ascend to the Lost City in the Clouds aboard the Vistadome train (light snack included) traveling along the Inca Trail, where you can view hikers and porters along the way. Here you will delve into the mysteries of this once-great civilization, joining your Local Specialist for an exploration of the temples, palaces and terraces whose construction defy imagination. Visit the iconic great Temple of the Sun, the House of the Priest, the Sacred Plaza and the intricately carved Intihuatana, most likely used as a sundial centuries ago. Our Trafalgar trip exceeding all my expectations.
Yes, our Trafalgar Tour was excellent and extraordinary. There was only one difficulty. We were supposed to be taken to the Hilton Hotel by a shuttle that the hotel provides on our arrival from Baltras Island airport to Guayaquil Airport. This was prearranged by Trafalgar and was stipulated on our itinerary. However, when we arrived to Guayaquil, there was no one there to tell us where to find the shuttle. We arrived around 12 noon and our next flight to Lima, Peru, was not scheduled to depart til 8:pm. The airport shuttle to the Hilton was to enable to us to put our luggage into storage, rest and have a meal prior to departing to the airport to depart for Lima for our return flight to Los Angeles, California. We arrived with a group of 4 ladies from Minnesota, who were also, on our tour. After waiting approximately 45 min for the shuttle to arrive, one of the ladies used her phone to call the call the Hilton Hotel to inquire about the shuttle. She was told that they would send out a shuttle to meet us at the passenger loading area in front to the airport. Fortunately this lady had phone service in Ecuador. Of the 6 of us in our Trafalgar Tour group, waiting in the airport, she was the only one who had phone service. Im'm not sure what action I could have taken to contact the Hilton Hotel in order to reach them regarding this problem. I hope you will pass this on to Trafalgar customer service as my husband and I husband and I were worried that we would have had to spend about 7 hrs stuck in the Guayaquil airport with 3 pieces of luggage. It was very much more comfortable waiting at the Hilton and having nice meal there.
We had a fantastic time in Peru. We enjoyed every day, learned so much from both our tour director and local guides. The hotels were all first class. We went during the "rainy season" which worried me but we had blue skies and wonderful temperatures. I have nothing negative to say except that since there was far distances to travel we did have a few very early mornings in order to fly to next destination. It was worth it!!
Trafalgar did a good job. However my husband became ill during the trip and our tour director seem more interested in keeping the tour moving than helping me make the best decisions for my husband's health. In fact I was told that if we left the tour he couldn't help us with alternate planning.
Due to Altitude sickness, extreme rain and an intestinal bug this was a difficult trip for the group. Perhaps a change in activity in Puno would be most beneficial!
This "Land of the Incas"trip was more that we had hoped for. We had first-rate 5 Star accommodations, excellent choice of meals and wonderful staff in all locations. Our Tour Director was a saint with his concern and care for all of his "charges". I have no idea when he slept with all his responsibilities. We also had a local guide in Cusco, who was also a very knowledgeable and super nice person. The local people in Peru, street folks, shop vendors, etc., were very friendly and patient with us and our limited language skills. All in all it was an excellent trip. Our one and only comment was that there didn't seem to be much time between some of the side tours with late arrival back to the hotel sometimes at 6:00 or 7:00pm and the start of the next days events, sometimes as early as 5:00am. We opted out of a couple of side tours just to have some free time to relax and see the cities.
Trafalger was a great company with professional and experienced tour guides. Accommodations, meals, options were top of the line.

Amazing trip. Not for the faint of heart or physically challenged. It was fast paced, long days and extremely high altitude. That being said, it was a once in a life time experience
