Tour Itinerary
Black Forest , Frankfurt , Fussen , Heidelberg , Innsbruck , Lindau , Munich , Nuremberg , Oberammergau , Rothenburg
Welcome to Germany! Arrival at Frankfurt airport and transfer to the hotel. The rest of the day is free to spend at your leisure, shopping, exploring, or finding somewhere to dine. Frankfurt is the financial and commercial heart of Germany, a city full of fascinating contrasts between modern development and historic landmarks, and is sure to impress.
In the morning travel from Frankfurt to Heidelberg! Visit the famous castle ascending with a cable car and enjoy a sightseeing tour of its historic city center. Idyllically located on the shores of the Neckar River, Heidelberg is Germany’s oldest university town and one of the most popular destinations in the country. Then, continue to the famous Black Forest region. This night you will have an authentic Black Forest experience: Enjoy a typical Black Forest dinner and overnight in a romantically located hotel. If you like, you can also take a little walk to the beautiful Ravenna Gorge or see the region’s oldest chapel, both of which are next to the hotel!
After breakfast, enjoy a short presentation on cuckoo clock production. Then continue to a small traditional Black Forest farm where you will enjoy a cheese tasting and the real Black Forest! After that, travel to Lake Titisee, nestled in the legendary Black Forest area and continue the tour to the small island of Lindau in Lake Constance, which offers spectacular views of the Alps. Depending on weather conditions you take the Alpine road from Lindau to Oberstaufen and Immenstadt to your final destination, Füssen, the southernmost point on our tour of Romantic Germany.
This day starts with a visit to Neuschwanstein Castle, built by Ludwig II, the notorious “Mad King.“ This castle served as an inspiration to Walt Disney when he built the Sleeping Beauty castle in Disneyland! At midday, travel to Oberammergau, famous for its Passion Play and lovely crafts. Along the way visit the Wieskirche Church before continuing the tour to visit Linderhof Palace. This is one of the 3 castles built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria and the only one where the king actually lived for a significant amount of his life. After exploring the palace, prepare for a brief stop at the Ettal Benedictine Abbey and then continue on to Innsbruck.
Welcome to Innsbruck! In the morning enjoy a sightseeing tour of this Austrian city, located in the gorgeous deep valley of the River Inn, between the scenic Karwendel Mountains to the north and Tuxer Mountains to the south. Take in the sights and marvel at the atmosphere. Then, in the afternoon, you travel to Munich and stay overnight.
After breakfast visit the city’s main attractions, concluding the tour at the Marienplatz square with its famous clock tower. Munich, the capital of the state of Bavaria, is famous for its Oktoberfest, which is annually celebrated in September. The afternoon is free to explore at your leisure. Munich has something for everyone! Work up a good appetite, because in the evening you will enjoy a traditional Bavarian dinner before overnighting in the hotel.
Today depart for Nuremberg. On your way, you will stop in Nördlingen, a beautiful medieval city. This city is surrounded by an old protective wall which encircles its late gothic St. George’s Church, an impressive relic of the past. Following the Romantic Road you will reach Dinkelsbühl, a medieval town with fairy-tale atmosphere. Continue to Nuremberg, visit the historic city center, and learn more about its impressive history. You will see the well-preserved Nuremberg castle, Gothic churches, romantic houses and peaceful squares.
Today continue to Rothenburg ob der Tauber, one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in Romantic Germany. The sightseeing tour of this lovely medieval town concludes with a Schneeballen (snow ball) tasting, a pastry considered the signature dish of Rothenburg! Next you travel to Frankfurt and say goodbye to your driver guide. Spend the rest of the day as you please and overnight at an airport hotelm and prepare to go home. Optional: Visit of the Documentation Center Nazi Party Rally Ground.
After breakfast, take the hotel shuttle service to the airport. This was my fourth trip to Ireland and by far the BEST with Celtic Tours!!!! The tour locations were wonderful and our tour guide, Sean was awesome!!! Sean was very educated on the country and we learned so much from him. He was very accommodating and allowed extra time where we would like to stop. I would HIGHLY recommend Celtic Tours and Sean as your guide.
