We just got back from our trip 15-day Spain and Portugal. Overall we enjoyed the sightseeing in different places. However, I was surprised by the big bill for the first lunch in Lisbon. The restaurant is Luxmar recommended by our tour guide. For one medium size sea bass referred by the waiter, half for each of us, with two pieces of small potato, and three pieces of carrot and one piece of bread, no wine; it costs us 83 euro lunch for two persons. The menu list 62.5 euro, I thought it is a meal; and the waiter took the menu away before I asked more questions. It looked like he did not understand much English. Even when the bill came, I tried to ask what is for the other charges; the waiter only said "tip." I was so disappointed and just paid him tip and left. With 10% tip, he did not even give us a smile. I think the other charges is for the olive and water which we did not order. I told my friends who will go in May, they are wrong, Lisbon is very expensive, more expensive than the US for one lunch. I wish our tour guides can explain to us how the restaurants charge if they want to recommend any restaurant; because the waiter may not know how to speak English, and we do not know how to read the menu. The local guide in Spain is a lady and she is very knowledgeable and talkative who give us much needed history and knowledge about the painters and their paintings. The last 3 days in Barcelona has only 2-3 hours daily with a very short time bus tours and option tours. I appreciate our guide who keeps reminding us about keeping an eye on our purse and passport. For some unknown reason, most of our tour mates are sick during this trip, including me.
